When most people hear the word chakras, they picture the familiar seven energy centers that travel from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. These seven chakras form the foundation of many modern energy-healing practices, but they are not the only energetic centers discussed within spiritual traditions.
The hands and feet are also believed to contain important energy centers. Some expanded chakra systems include the Earth Star chakra beneath the feet and the Soul Star chakra above the crown. Together, these lesser-known chakras can offer a broader way to explore grounding, giving and receiving energy, connecting with the Earth, and deepening spiritual awareness.
You do not need to understand every chakra system or feel dramatic sensations to work with these energy centers. Curiosity, intention, and a few quiet moments are enough to begin.
A Quick Look at the Traditional Seven Chakras
Before moving beyond the traditional chakra system, it helps to understand the foundation. The seven main chakras are commonly associated with different areas of life and personal well-being:
Root Chakra - grounding, stability, safety, and connection to the physical world
Sacral Chakra - creativity, emotion, pleasure, and personal flow
Solar Plexus Chakra - confidence, motivation, and personal power
Heart Chakra - love, compassion, forgiveness, and emotional balance
Throat Chakra - communication, honesty, and self-expression
Third Eye Chakra - intuition, perception, imagination, and inner wisdom
Crown Chakra - spiritual connection, higher awareness, and a sense of unity
These energy centers are often imagined as a central pathway through the body. The hand, foot, Earth Star, and Soul Star chakras expand that pathway outward, helping us explore how energy may be exchanged, grounded, and connected beyond the physical body.
The Hand Chakras: Giving, Receiving & Sensing Energy
The hand chakras, sometimes called palm chakras, are located in the center of each palm. They are closely associated with giving and receiving energy, which is one reason the hands play such an important role in Reiki, energy healing, prayer, massage, creative work, and comforting touch.
The hand chakras are also believed to help us sense subtle energy. When holding a crystal, you may notice warmth, tingling, pulsing, heaviness, coolness, or simply a quiet feeling of connection. You may also feel nothing at all. Sensitivity varies from person to person, and it can change from one day to the next.
A Simple Hand Chakra Exercise
Rub your palms together briskly for about ten seconds, then slowly separate them. Hold your hands a few inches apart with your palms facing one another. Gently move them closer together and farther apart, as though you were holding an invisible ball. Notice whether you sense warmth, pressure, tingling, resistance, or another subtle change.
To include a crystal, place Clear Quartz, Selenite, Amethyst, or another stone you feel drawn to in one palm. Close your eyes, breathe slowly, and observe without trying to force a particular experience.

The Foot Chakras: Grounding & Energetic Release
The foot chakras are generally described as being located in the soles of the feet. They connect the body's energetic system with the Earth and are associated with grounding, stability, physical presence, and the release of excess or stagnant energy.
When life feels mentally noisy or emotionally overwhelming, attention often rises into the head. Working with the feet can gently bring awareness back into the body and the present moment. This is why barefoot walking, mindful standing, and visualizing roots extending into the Earth can feel so centering.
A Simple Foot Chakra Grounding Practice
Sit or stand with both feet resting firmly on the floor. Take several slow breaths and imagine roots extending from the soles of your feet deep into the Earth. With each exhale, picture tension and excess energy traveling downward. With each inhale, imagine steady, supportive energy rising through your feet and into your body.
Grounding crystals such as Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz, Hematite, Red Jasper, or Obsidian can be placed near your feet during meditation. You can also carry one with you when you want a physical reminder to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.
The Earth Star Chakra: Your Energetic Anchor
The Earth Star chakra is usually placed below the feet rather than within the physical body. Its exact position varies among teachings, but it is commonly visualized approximately six to twelve inches beneath the soles. It is associated with deep grounding, belonging, stability, ancestral connection, and our energetic relationship with the Earth.
While the root chakra helps us feel secure within the body and physical life, the Earth Star chakra is often viewed as the anchor that connects the entire chakra system to the Earth. Working with it may be especially meaningful when you feel scattered, disconnected, unsteady, or overly absorbed in spiritual or mental activity.
Connecting With the Earth Star Chakra
Imagine a point of dark red, brown, black, or earthy golden light beneath your feet. Visualize energy flowing from your body into this point and then continuing into the Earth. Allow the Earth Star chakra to act like an anchor, holding you steady while anything you no longer need is gently released.
Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz, Hematite, and Obsidian are often chosen for Earth Star work. Place a stone on the floor beneath or between your feet while meditating, or keep one near the doorway as a reminder to ground before beginning and ending your day.
The Soul Star Chakra: Connection Beyond the Self
The Soul Star chakra is commonly visualized above the crown of the head, often six to twelve inches above the body. It is sometimes called the seat of the soul and is associated with higher awareness, spiritual insight, soul purpose, and connection with something greater than the individual self.
The crown chakra is generally associated with spiritual awareness as it is experienced within the human energy system. The Soul Star chakra is often described as extending that awareness beyond the physical self. Because this energy can feel expansive, it is helpful to pair Soul Star practices with grounding through the feet and Earth Star chakra.
A Gentle Soul Star Meditation
Sit comfortably and take a few slow breaths. Imagine a soft white, golden, or violet light above your head. Rather than pulling or forcing the energy downward, simply allow yourself to become aware of it. You might quietly ask to receive only the insight, peace, or guidance that supports your highest good at this time.
Clear Quartz, Selenite, Amethyst, Celestite, or Labradorite may complement this practice. A Selenite wand can also be moved gently above and around the crown area as part of an intentional energy-clearing ritual. Finish by placing both feet on the floor, drinking water, or holding a grounding stone.
How These Four Chakras Work Together
These lesser-known chakras can be imagined as an energetic bridge between the Earth, the physical body, our interactions with the world, and spiritual awareness:
Earth Star Chakra - anchors your energy beneath the body
Foot Chakras - help energy move between the body and the Earth
Hand Chakras - support giving, receiving, creating, and sensing energy
Soul Star Chakra - opens awareness to spiritual connection beyond the physical self
Balance is more important than constantly trying to reach higher states of awareness. Spiritual practices tend to feel more supportive when expansion is paired with grounding. If you work with the Soul Star chakra, take time to reconnect with your feet and Earth Star chakra afterward. If you feel heavy or stuck, the hands can be used to direct intention, creativity, and compassionate energy back into your daily life.
A Simple Practice for Balancing All Four
You can explore all four chakras in a short meditation:
1. Ground - Place your feet on the floor and imagine your Earth Star chakra glowing beneath you.
2. Connect - Notice the soles of your feet and visualize steady Earth energy moving upward.
3. Receive - Rest your hands palms-up and allow yourself to receive calm, supportive energy.
4. Expand - Become aware of a gentle light above your crown at the Soul Star chakra.
5. Return - Bring your attention back to your breath, hands, feet, and physical surroundings before opening your eyes.
This practice does not have to produce a dramatic experience. Even a few quiet minutes can create space to notice what your energy, body, and intuition may be communicating.
Choosing Crystals for Chakra Work
Crystal correspondences are guides rather than strict rules. Color, traditional associations, and personal intuition can all help you choose. A grounding stone may support foot and Earth Star practices, while a clear or high-vibration stone may complement hand or Soul Star work. The best choice is often the crystal that helps you feel present, focused, and connected to your intention.

Final Thoughts
The seven main chakras provide a valuable map of the energy body, but they do not have to be the end of your exploration. The hand, foot, Earth Star, and Soul Star chakras invite us to consider how energy moves through our actions, connects us with the Earth, and opens us to a deeper sense of spiritual awareness.
Move slowly, stay grounded, and let your experience be your own. You do not need to feel what someone else feels or follow every chakra system perfectly. Your attention and intention are what make the practice meaningful.
